FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Austin’s First Chinatown Center to Hold Grand Opening Celebration

Austin, TX, September 30 – October 1, 2006 — Austin’s newest landmark, the first Chinatown Center in Central Texas, will hold its Grand Opening celebration Saturday, September 30 through Sunday, October 1, 2006.  Live entertainment will be provided during the two days of family-friendly activities, which will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on a stage right outside M.T. Supermarket.  The center is located at 10901 N. Lamar Blvd.

Both international and local entertainment will be provided, including music performed by The Ocean Band, Frequent Flyers and Ánh Duóng, as well as martial arts demonstrations by Master Yi’s World Tukong Moosul Federation and a performance by Austin’s local Dragon Dance.

Visitors will find M.T. Supermarket, the largest Central Texas Asian supermarket, a variety of authentic Asian cuisine restaurants, jewelry stores, the Austin Asian American Chamber of Commerce and over 40 other retail shops in the 180,000 square feet of retail space, which was developed by Tan International Group.

“Before Austin’s Chinatown Center, people had to travel to Houston or Dallas for a true Asian experience, whether they were looking for dining, shopping or entertainment,” Alex Tan, the developer of Chinatown, says.  “This is also a great addition to Austin for the economy.  We will soon have over 300 people employed at the center.”

The ribbon cutting will precede an invitation-only dinner banquet on Friday, September 29th.
