Austin, TX, February 7, 2007 — Austin’s newest landmark, Chinatown Center  will celebrate Chinese New Year’s – Year of the Pig – under a huge 5,000 square foot big top tent.  The event will be held on Saturday, February 17th 2pm-6pm and Sunday, February 18th, 2007 2pm-6pm.  The public is invited to attend; shop; eat; and be entertained.  Activities include a kid’s area, live international entertainment, martial arts demonstrations, a dragon and lion dance performance and over $3,000 worth of give-aways.  All activities will be FREE to the public, and all retail stores and restaurants in the center will be open.  The Chinatown Center is located at 10901 N. Lamar Blvd. at the intersection of Kramer and N. Lamar.

“Before Austin’s Chinatown Center, people had to travel to Houston or Dallas for a true Asian experience, whether they were looking for dining, shopping or entertainment,” Alex Tan, the developer of Chinatown, says. This newly opened 180,000 square feet of retail space offers hard to find and specialty Asian items. In addition to the largest Central Texas Asian supermarket, M.T. Supermarket, patrons can choose from the eight currently opened restaurants and numerous shops offering everything from clothing, cell phones, movie rentals, jewelry and much more.

With the excitement of international entertainment, firecrackers and authentic Asian libations, this event will bring together the Austin public to promote interest in the Asian culture.  In addition, it provides a genuine Celebration for Chinese New Year’s – Year of the Pig – the last of a 12 year Chinese zodiac cycle.

The full entertainment schedule is published on Chinatown’s website – www.chinatownaustin.com.
